7 Ways To Keep The Kids Entertained At Home

With millions of us now at home until further notice, the hunt for ways to beat the self-isolation boredom has begun. And for those of us with kids, this task is made even harder. Keeping your energetic little monkeys entertained is difficult at the best of times, never mind being stuck indoors for a prolonged period of time. To help you out, our Gatwick Airport hotel has compiled a list of just some of the ways you can keep your kids entertained whilst at home.

Bake some buns

Every kid loves to bake and it’s a great way to keep them busy. Choose something easy like fairy cakes or rice crispy buns and let your little ones help with measuring, mixing and of course, decorating! It may be slightly messy but it’s a fantastic way to introduce your kids to the kitchen and let them experiment with foods and flavours.

Have an Arts & Crafts day

Get creative and have a day full of arts and crafts at home. Paint, draw or paper mache, what they do is entirely up to you. Make it even more interesting and give them a specific theme or challenge to do. Our hotel in Gatwick suggests sticking their creations to the window to spread some joy and positivity to those passing by.

Crayons

Find the fun in a cardboard box

Apparently, there are 101 things you can do with a cardboard box. So why not get the kids to put it to the test? Most people have an old box lying around from a delivery, and the size really doesn’t matter. Let them go wild and use it however they see fit. Whether they create a den, a rocket or use it for arts and crafts, it will be sure to keep them entertained for hours on end.

Experiment with science

Have some fun with mind-blowing science experiments, all of which you can do with regular household items. From the classic baking soda volcano to a rainbow in a glass and homemade lava lamp, these experiments are educational and will be sure to fascinate your kids. If you’re doing a messy one, our Gatwick Airport hotel suggests taking it to the garden!

Host an indoor festival

Festival season may be cancelled but that doesn’t mean you can’t host your own! Set your kids the task of hosting an indoor music festival with whatever they can find in the house. Grab pots and pans, wooden spoons and utensils and let their creativity go wild as they create their own music. This is a great activity to keep them entertained and their minds active.

Build a blanket fort

Rainy day? Not to worry! Grab old blankets, sheets and cushions and make an epic blanket fort. If you have more than one child, this is a great opportunity to get them to work and get creative together. Building a fort will be sure to keep them busy for a few hours and then they can spend the rest of the day playing games inside!

Blanket Fort

Host a movie day

Everyone loves a good movie marathon. Rather than just sticking your kids in front of the TV for the afternoon, make it fun with different activities. First of all, task them with making the room cosy, whether they decide to build a blanket fort or just make the sofa cosy with duvets, leave it up to them. Then help them decide on snacks and what films they want to watch.

Family Movie Night

We hope that this has inspired you to come up with some creative ways to keep the kids entertained. In these uncertain times, our budget hotel in Gatwick urges you to stay safe, stay well and stay home.

Holiday Inn Express Gatwick Crawley Reviews

Dean,

Wales

Absolutely fantastic hotel... Booked it as a package, a very economical package with Purple Parking via Holiday Extras on our way to California via Gatwick Airport. One of the cleanest, hassle free hotels I have ever stayed in and I completely, 100% will recommend them to anyone travelling via Gatwick and will certainly use this hotel again myself. Breakfast was awesome, just what we needed to set us up for our 10 hour flight.

We stayed here before our flight to Crete and got a Hotel & Parking package. It was easy to find, the staff were very efficient & friendly and we had a ground floor room, which was lovely & clean. Overall a nice relaxing stay before our trip, we would definitely stay again.

This hotel was lovely and had a lovely vibe as lots of the holiday customers were excited . The hotel staff were very chatty and friendly. We arrived at the hotel too late for food but were told we could get sandwiches made up. However, we were shattered so we didn't bother taking up this generous offer. Our room was lovely and had complementary free WiFi so the kids were happy. We left our car at the hotel for a week which was secure and looked after. When we returned at 2am the following week, the staff were just as lovely and helpful. We were very happy with the service and we look forward to doing it all again next year.

Just stayed in the Holiday Inn Express at Crawley before flying out of Gatwick Airport. We booked our stay via APH car parks. We had a really good stay and the hotel had nice, clean and modern rooms with a good comfy bed. We had the added bonus of a breakfast included & check in was nice and simple with overnight parking. Well worth it to be nice and fresh for the airport.

Stayed at Holiday Inn Express Crawley for 3 nights during an in-between London/Brighton break. The breakfast was good and had a variety of foods on offer. The hotel was very clean as were the bathroom/bedrooms!

We stayed at Holiday Inn Express Crawley and paid for the Stay & Park package as we had an early flight the next day. I have stayed here on business before, however I forgot how good it was. Quick check in and everything was clean. We had dinner at the bar and the food was excellent, I could not fault a thing. Worth every penny!

Victoria,

Norwich

We originally booked for one night but decided to extend our stay for another night. The staff were extremely helpful and only charged us the same rate for the second night as the first. The Hotel reception and lounge (where breakfast is) is lovely and modern. The rooms are clean and well designed and we couldn't hear any noise from the airport or roads. Breakfast was good and it wasn't too busy. Overall a nice hotel that's good value for money.

We picked this hotel again to park the car during our holiday and stay overnight when we got back as our flight did not arrive until early morning. 1st class service, excellent value and very helpful staff. Would highly recommend this hotel.
