With quaint villages and coastal trails, Sussex is a wonderful place to go walking. And, with the government relaxing lockdown measures, it’s the perfect time to explore places further afield. So if you live in Crawley, why not discover what the rest of Sussex has to offer?

In this blog, our Gatwick Airport hotel explores some of the best walks to do in Sussex. Read on for some ideas and inspiration!

Ashdown Forest

One of the largest free public spaces in the South East, Ashdown Forest, is a fantastic place to go on a walk. Better known across the world as the home of Winnie-the-Pooh, Hundred Acre Woods is said to be based on this particular forest. Please note, due to the coronavirus pandemic, The Forest Centre is closed until further notice.

River Cuckmere

Head down to River Cuckmere! The river can be found rising at Heathfield, East Sussex on the slopes of the Weald and provides some truly picturesque views. In terms of its name, it comes from the Old English word meaning “fast-flowing” as it descends over 100m in 4 miles.

Devil’s Dyke

Located in South Downs National Park, Devil’s Dyke offers incredible panoramic views. Almost a mile long, the valley is the longest, deepest and widest ‘dry valley’ in the country. Legend has it that it was created by the devil in an attempt to floor the Weald, which explains its name. However, a more likely story says it was created during the Ice Age.

Angmering Woods

With thousands of bluebells, Angmering Woods has to be one of the prettiest walks in Sussex. The woods, which is located east of Arundel, has a number of routes to suit different abilities, the longest being around five miles. The bluebells are in full bloom in April but the woods look beautiful all year round. Please note, picking the wildflowers is illegal.

Tilgate Park

If you fancy exploring more of what Crawley has to offer, Tilgate Park is great. With stunning lakes, gardens and miles of woodland, it’s a lovely place to go on a leisurely stroll. It also boasts a green trail which features trees from across the globe, from China and Africa to Europe and America. Please note, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Tilgate Nature Centre is closed until further notice.

Although we are now allowed to venture further afield, our Gatwick Airport hotel urges you to follow the Government’s social distancing measures. Stay alert and stay safe.

Holiday Inn Express Gatwick Crawley Reviews

Dean,

Wales

Absolutely fantastic hotel... Booked it as a package, a very economical package with Purple Parking via Holiday Extras on our way to California via Gatwick Airport. One of the cleanest, hassle free hotels I have ever stayed in and I completely, 100% will recommend them to anyone travelling via Gatwick and will certainly use this hotel again myself. Breakfast was awesome, just what we needed to set us up for our 10 hour flight.

Very comfortable stay. Breakfast very good and staff very attentive. Easy to find and great value for money. Very welcoming and nice quiet hotel. Staff great could not fault anything. Nice and handy for Gatwick.

Angela,

Southampton

We stayed here before our flight to Crete and got a Hotel & Parking package. It was easy to find, the staff were very efficient & friendly and we had a ground floor room, which was lovely & clean. Overall a nice relaxing stay before our trip, we would definitely stay again.

Rigsby

This hotel was lovely and had a lovely vibe as lots of the holiday customers were excited . The hotel staff were very chatty and friendly. We arrived at the hotel too late for food but were told we could get sandwiches made up. However, we were shattered so we didn't bother taking up this generous offer. Our room was lovely and had complementary free WiFi so the kids were happy. We left our car at the hotel for a week which was secure and looked after. When we returned at 2am the following week, the staff were just as lovely and helpful. We were very happy with the service and we look forward to doing it all again next year.

Just stayed in the Holiday Inn Express at Crawley before flying out of Gatwick Airport. We booked our stay via APH car parks. We had a really good stay and the hotel had nice, clean and modern rooms with a good comfy bed. We had the added bonus of a breakfast included & check in was nice and simple with overnight parking. Well worth it to be nice and fresh for the airport.

Stayed at Holiday Inn Express Crawley for 3 nights during an in-between London/Brighton break. The breakfast was good and had a variety of foods on offer. The hotel was very clean as were the bathroom/bedrooms!

Harvey,

Southampton

We stayed at Holiday Inn Express Crawley and paid for the Stay & Park package as we had an early flight the next day. I have stayed here on business before, however I forgot how good it was. Quick check in and everything was clean. We had dinner at the bar and the food was excellent, I could not fault a thing. Worth every penny!

Victoria,

Norwich

We originally booked for one night but decided to extend our stay for another night. The staff were extremely helpful and only charged us the same rate for the second night as the first. The Hotel reception and lounge (where breakfast is) is lovely and modern. The rooms are clean and well designed and we couldn't hear any noise from the airport or roads. Breakfast was good and it wasn't too busy. Overall a nice hotel that's good value for money.

Cardiff, Wales

We picked this hotel again to park the car during our holiday and stay overnight when we got back as our flight did not arrive until early morning. 1st class service, excellent value and very helpful staff. Would highly recommend this hotel.
